The
Daytona Beach area is located in Florida's Central East Coast
region. It includes seven communities stretching 23 miles along the
Atlantic Coast. Daytona Beach is the largest municipality within the
county of Volusia. Others include Ormond Beach, South Daytona, Daytona
Beach Shores, Holly Hill, Ponce Inlet and Port Orange. There are three
major rivers in the area, including the St. Johns River at the western
boundary of Volusia County, the Tomoka River leading from the resort area
inland through the Tomoka State Park, and the Halifax River or
lntracoastal Waterway which runs parallel to the coastline.
The
Daytona beach is famous for many other things besides cars and
racing. There are the many very friendly and beautiful people that are
always enjoying activities at the beach. With 23 miles to play on people
have found an almost unlimited amount of activities. Sunbathing, surfing,
frisbee, sandcastle building, people watching, volleyball, swimming,
running, bicycling, car cruising, bikini watching, kite flying, picnicking,
riding floats, relaxing, riding motorbikes, sitting under umbrellas,
looking for shells, sailing, jet skiing, skim boarding, fishing, enjoying
beauty contests, eating "beach dogs" or snow cones, going up in
the space needle, walking the boardwalk, playing video games, enjoying the
sky ride, taking a giant swing, sail boarding, jogging, enjoying free
concerts, comparing tans, meeting new friends, or take a romantic walk .
The
Daytona Beach area features some of the best ocean fishing found
anywhere. The area plays host to the Greater Daytona Beach Sticking
Fish Tournament each May. Blue
Marlin are found in the Gulf Stream. Closer to shore, Sailfish,
Dolphin, King Mackerel, Wahoo and Tuna are
caught on trolled baits. On the bottom around the numerous reefs, Grouper
and Red Snapper are the most avidly sought species while the
bruising king-size Jack Crevalle and Amberjack provide
tackle-busting variety. A fleet of nearly 25 offshore craft - including
both private charter and party boats - sails daily, most from the docks at
Ponce Inlet. The Daytona Beach Area is a virtual water sports
paradise. Sailing, surfing and jet skiing are popular sports in the
ocean and championship competitions in all three sports are held on the
beach throughout the year.
More
than eight million visitors come to the area each year. Daytona Beach
plays hosts to visitors from all over the world. These include senior
citizens, families, students and single adults. Daytona Beach is happy to
have such a wide variety of tourists, and welcome each and every one with
the same warm hospitality.
