History Museum

Museum of Art and History ,
is busy all year long with touring opportunities. The Museum has school
tours of our exhibits and the Evergreen Cemetery, docent tours for adults,
and travel tours at home and abroad.
Santa
Cruz Surfing Museum traces
over 100 years of surfing history as it relates to Santa Cruz. Visitors to
the museum will enjoy a spectacular view of Santa Cruz and the Monterey
Bay while overlooking Steamer Lane, an internationally known surfing site.
Museum
displays include surf boards ranging from redwood "planks" to modern
high-tech designs, early wetsuits, photographs showing Santa Cruz surfers
and wave riding from the 1930s through today, continuous videos
illustrating surfing's ever-changing styles, and a gift shop with books,
T-shirts, sweatshirts, posters, and more.
Wines
- The Santa Cruz Mountains has been recognized as a premium wine producing region since the late 1800's when local wine growers first
began to win acclaim for their wines in national and international
competitions. In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation
became federally recognized, one of the first American viticulture areas
to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. Vintner's Festival -
The Vintners' Festival takes place 2 weekends in June at wineries and
restaurants throughout the area. Many Festival locations offer special
wines, food, music, art shows and other entertainment. To join the
festivities, you purchase a glass at any, participating festival location.
The
University of California, Santa Cruz announces its new Ph.D. program in history at the University of
California, Santa Cruz. The program includes a teaching field in world
history. Explicitly interdisciplinary and cross-cultural in its approach,
the graduate program in history at UCSC offers a rigorous program of study
which includes training in the techniques of original historical research
as well as in teaching university-level courses in history.
