Gualaceo - History

Gualaceo: Chibcha origin word, Hual means without life and Ceo or Axiu means water, in other words Gualaceo, or Hualaxiu means water without life or a river that is sleeping.

The history of Gualaceo is not well known because some Indian people burned all the files from el Municipio of Gualaceo, which contained all the history of Gualaceo. This malicious act is believed to have happened with the purpose of the incineration of some property mortgage and notary public positions, the file of the Judge Don Alfonso Webster was incinerated then. The Indians obtained an important file which was thrown from the building of el Municipio to the fire, this important file contained all the history of Gualaceo, the authenticity of three and a half centuries of civic action disappeared at the sight of many people from Gualaceo who were unable to do anything to this stupid act.
